Railotech (formerly Aker Arctic) has been developing the propulsion line for the Finnish Navy’s Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes in co-operation with the Finnish Defence Forces since 2015. The contract covers the design, delivery and integration of complete propulsion lines for all four corvettes, which will serve in the Baltic Sea under the Finnish Navy’s Squadron 2020 project.
For the first vessel, Railotech has completed delivery of the full shaftline package, including controllable pitch propellers, bearings, shaft seals and the shaft torque monitoring system – work that was successfully completed at the end of 2024. Construction of the corvette class continues at Rauma Marine Constructions’ shipyard.
Initial operational capability of the first corvette is expected in 2027, with the full squadron reaching operational capability in 2029.
Aker Arctic has met all our expectations. We value their work and look forward to continued cooperation. Their customer-centred and solution-oriented approach has been instrumental in our collaboration.
