The Canadian Coast Guard marked the keel laying of the polar icebreaker CCGS Imnaryuaq at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards on 14 October 2026, according to a Canadian Coast Guard news release. The Coast Guard describes the vessel as the largest ever built for the service and able to operate year-round in the high Arctic. The keel laying is the moment the first constructed section is put in place and the ship begins to take form.
